World Hunger Day 2026

Thursday 28th May marks World Hunger Day — a day dedicated to raising awareness about global hunger and encouraging collective action to create a hunger-free world.

For pupils at the Roof of Africa schools, hunger is not just a statistic — it is something many experience every day. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, every child attending our schools receives two hot meals a day. For some pupils, these meals are the only food they will eat that day.

World Hunger Day reminds us that millions of people around the world still face food insecurity and malnutrition. Around 673 million people globally experience hunger, with poverty, conflict, climate change, and inequality continuing to drive the crisis.

The 2026 theme, “The End of Hunger is in Our Hands,” highlights the power of communities and individuals to create lasting change. From farmers restoring land, to women leading local initiatives, to young people developing climate-smart solutions — real progress happens when people work together.

At Roof of Africa, we see the impact of that collective action every single day. A warm meal at school does more than ease hunger; it helps children concentrate in class, improves attendance, and gives them the opportunity to learn, grow, and hope for a better future.

This World Hunger Day, we thank everyone who supports our feeding programmes and helps ensure children have the nourishment they need to thrive.

Together, we can help build a future where no child has to learn on an empty stomach.
