Behind every child at The Roof of Africa school is a story of resilience — but also of hardship no child should have to endure.

Most of the children we serve are growing up in extreme poverty. When we first began, it quickly became clear that education alone wasn’t enough. A child cannot learn when they are hungry, anxious, or without stability. So we made a promise: we would care for the whole child — body, mind, and future.

That’s why every child who walks through our doors receives two hot, nourishing meals each day. For many, these are the only reliable meals they will have. But our support doesn’t stop at the school gates.

For families facing the greatest challenges — elderly grandparents raising grandchildren, single parents unable to find work — we provide essential food parcels. Through our community support programme, children continue to receive meals not just during school days, but on weekends and throughout the holidays. Because hunger doesn’t take time off.

For some of the most vulnerable — orphans and children once living on the streets — the alternative was a life without safety, or growing up in institutions. Today, that story is changing. Through our reunification programme, local elders — many of them grandparents — are opening their homes and hearts, giving these children something every child deserves: a family.

This is more than support. It’s transformation. It’s dignity. It’s hope.
