The importance of family reunification

The importance of family reunification
Whenever it is safe and appropriate to do so, we believe the best place for a child is within a loving family or supportive community environment — not growing up long-term in institutional care or an orphanage.
For children who have experienced abandonment, family breakdown, neglect, or extreme hardship, being reunited with relatives or trusted community members can be truly life-changing. We have witnessed many successful reunifications through our work, and time and again we see the profound emotional, psychological, and developmental impact this has on a child.
A stable family environment gives children something every child deserves:
A sense of belonging
Emotional connection
Cultural identity
Stability and security
The opportunity to grow within a community that knows and cares for them
Family reunification, however, is a careful and highly supported process. It requires thorough safeguarding, planning, assessment, and long-term monitoring to ensure that the child’s welfare always remains the priority.
Our reunification programme includes:
Family tracing
Family assessment and safeguarding checks
Individual case planning
School support
School uniforms and educational materials
Basic family stabilisation support
Regular home visits
Documentation and legal processes where required
Ongoing child welfare monitoring and support
This work is intensive, detailed, and deeply important, but the outcomes can be transformational — helping children move from uncertainty and vulnerability towards stability, belonging, and hope for the future.
The full cost of safely supporting one child through this reunification process is approximately £4,750 per child.
Through this investment, we are not simply changing a child’s immediate circumstances. We are helping restore family connection, rebuild stability, and create the foundations for a safer and more hopeful future.
